Poster Version - Student researchers tracked a Quasi-linear Convective System (QLCS) through South Central and East Central Pennsylvania to gather data from QLCS storms. Despite the absence of tornadogenesis data, the students found intriguing results that suggest reasonings as to why there was rapid intensification of the squall line.
Poster Version - As a means of gathering our own observed data from tornadic storms, we prototyped a piece of meteorological instrumentation designed to be deployed, via drone, into the low pressure centers of tornadoes. To test this instrumentation, two tests were conducted to observe its representativeness. After observing the results from both tests, significant differences in biases were found in the data sets.
Poster Version - This poster focuses on the mathematical development for our proposed methodology, along with the physics experienced by our unmanned instrumentation package prior to and inside the torus flow surrounding the vortex tube of a tornado.
Poster Version - Due to the inaccessibility of some field program grants, students researchers of TILTTING needed to pursue unique means to acquire the necessary funding for their research instrumentation and equipment. PowerPoint Presentation - Presented at the 103rd Annual AMS Conference in Denver, CO, this presentation encompasses the overall mission of TILTTING, the methodology, as well as the conducted probe tests, showing the success of TILTTING thus far. This was presented during the 23rd Symposium on Meteorological Observation and Instrumentation during Session 16 entitled Innovative Technological Advances for Mesoscale Observing Systems III.
